About the license
TFV is available as a perpetual license with a one-time purchase.
There is no annual contract fee or update fee.
You can download the latest version at any time from the client access page.
The software can be installed on multiple PCs.
The software only works on the PC to which the USB hard key (dongle) is connected.
What is included in the package?
The package contains a USB hard key, an installation CD, and an installation guide.
The software can be downloaded from our website. In that case, the installation CD is unnecessary.

What is the warranty period for the USB hard key, and how much does replacement cost?
The hard key is covered by a two-year warranty from the date of delivery.
- Failure within the warranty period
If the hard key fails under normal use within the warranty period, we will replace it free of charge. - Failure after the warranty period or damage caused by mishandling
If the hard key fails after the warranty period, or is damaged by mishandling even within the warranty period, we will replace it for a fee.
- Lost hard key
Lost hard keys are not eligible for replacement.
You will need to purchase the product again, so please take care not to lose your hard key.
I cannot connect my PC to the network for security reasons. Can I use the software?
This software does not require a network connection.
No online activation is required during installation either.
It can be used in a stand-alone environment.
What is the maximum number of layers that can be calculated?
TFV can calculate designs containing up to 5,000 rows in the design data table in the main window.
However, very large numbers of repetitions in repeated layer groups or subdivisions for inhomogeneous layers may exceed the available memory on your PC.
What wavelength range can TFV calculate?
The software imposes no limit on the wavelength range.
It can be used in the wavelength range (ultraviolet to infrared) for optical thin films.
In extreme cases, it can also be used over a wavelength range of 1 nm to 1000000 nm (1 mm).
When the PC recovers from standby or hibernation, "Hardware key not found." is displayed.
When in standby or hibernate mode, this message is displayed because communication with the hard key is interrupted.
Please unplug the hardware key, reconnect it to your PC, and press the "Retry" button.
Do I need to uninstall the demo version when installing the retail version?
The full version and the demo version are installed in separate folders and can coexist, so you do not have to uninstall the demo version.
How do I install the new version on a PC with the old version installed?
Install the new version directly over the existing version.
Your own data will be preserved, but we recommend backing it up before installation as a precaution.
TFV cannot read my spectrophotometer data file. Can you add support for it?
Please email us the spectrophotometer data file that TFV cannot read.
We will work on adding support for the file format free of charge.
Please note that we may not be able to support some specialized file formats.
If the data is confidential, you can instead send measurements of uncoated glass taken under the same conditions.

The software does not start because it can not recognize the USB hard key.
If TFV does not recognize the hardware key after installation, restart your PC.
I can not install TFV because the message "ThinFilmView setup can not be executed. 5" appears.
You need Windows administrator privileges to install TFV.
Ask your system administrator to install TFV.
How can I use my registered substrate and film material dispersion data on another PC?
Substrate dispersion data is in the C:\TFV\glass folder, and film material dispersion data is in the C:\TFV\dsp folder.
Files with the extension dsp in these folders are dispersion data files.
Copy the file to the same folder on another PC for use.
How can I use my registered inhomogeneity data on another PC?
Inhomogeneity data is in the C:\TFV\inhomogeneity folder.
Files with extension inh in the folder are inhomogeneity data files.
Copy the file to the same folder on another PC for use.
I want to increase the number of layers by optimization (I want to get closer to the target).
Basically, it is not possible to increase the number of layers beyond the number of target data points.
Try increasing the number of target data points.
For example, specifying targets every 1 nm from 400 nm to 700 nm allows more layers than specifying them every 5 nm over the same range. However, the calculation takes longer.
I cannot get good results from n and k analysis of a single-layer film.
